II-VI and MCT
Many of the world's premier night-vision systems employ mercury cadmium telluride (MCT) detectors.
MBE is the only production-compatible technique for depositing high-quality epitaxial layers of this alloy. Riber has a very strong track record in supplying machines dedicated to this process, starting with the MBE 32, a system with a horizontal geometry that minimized mercury usage. Manufacturers preferring to grow MCT films in a MBE system with a higher wafer throughput now select the Compact 21 and the MBE 412 systems.
